We love fine pianos and beautiful music!
For the most part, pianos today are made in factories by assembly line workers. They are seldom hand built and crafted by instrument makers and their apprentices. They are typically made of synthetic, composite woods. These heavier, more dense materials do not project sound as well as real wood with real grain.
Every piano that comes through our shop has been crafted by artisans. They are beautifully made and we upcycle them to fine instrument status once again. These pianos are gorgeous. They were made with great care and attention but in need of repair and love. All pianos that come through our showroom go through a rigorous 6 step process.
EVALUATION
First, we determine if the piano can be restored to instrument status or turned into parts. Many are sadly not worth the time or effort due to poor craftsmanship or age.
DISASSEMBLY
Next we begin the process of dismantling the piano, taking out the main action, the keys, and the cabinet. Here all parts are cleaned in a booth using compressed air.
INSPECTION & ASSEMBLY
Here the piano is cleaned and each individual part is examined and noted for repair. If parts are not sound, broken, or missing, we will reorder new parts through our vendor system.
REPAIRS, PITCH RAISING, TUNING, REGULATION & ADJUSTMENTS
At this stage the piano will be restored to instrument condition. All the hammers will be shaped and aligned, the action and keys adjusted; the cabinet repaired and all hardware cleaned and polished.
DETAIL CLEANING, FINE TUNING & VOICING
Now the piano graduates to the sales floor where it is voiced and fine tuning sets the tone and timbre of the instrument.
VALUATION
Once we have the piano sounding its best, it is finally graded and priced. Photographs are taken, the piano enters online inventory and it is ready for sale.
